PART-TIME (0.4) TWO DAYS WHICH CAN BE NEGOTIATED

FIXED-TERM (MATERNITY LEAVE COVER)

COMMENCES: OCTOBER 2024 - 31 DECEMBER 2025

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Counsellor with relevant experience to join a large dynamic team of educators and support staff at Alta-1 College.

Here’s some information about us...

At Alta-1 we recognise that adverse life experiences can impact a student’s sense of self-worth, motivation and capacity for learning, making engagement in a mainstream school setting difficult.

As an independent, co-educational CARE (Curriculum and Reengagement in Education) School, Alta-1 is a Christian organisation that works with students from years 7-12. We provide students with wraparound support to guide them on a journey of recovery through a trauma-informed approach. This approach helps students acknowledge, confront, and resolve barriers that have impacted their ability to reach their full potential.

We believe in fostering a highly relational environment where students, teachers and staff develop meaningful connections based on trust, respect and empathy. These relationships serve as the foundation for effective teaching and learning, allowing us to better understand and support the unique needs and aspirations of each student.

You are highly relational.

You possess strong relational skills, thriving in a flexible and dynamic environment while supporting young people with complex needs. Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, you provide tailored strategies that align with each student's unique requirements.

As an optimistic and resilient individual, you employ a holistic approach to foster student engagement and growth. Your capacity to address teenage mental health issues is substantial, marked by non-judgmental inclusivity in both words and actions. Your exceptional communication skills and patient demeanour enable you to support students through challenging concepts and situations.

You take a trauma informed approach to dealing with student care.

You employ a trauma-informed holistic approach to student care, collaborating within a dedicated team striving for the students' well-being. In this intricate system, you exhibit patience and discretion when sharing sensitive and confidential student information among team members. Your trustworthiness fosters a sense of safety for students, parents, and staff who confide in you.

You empower others.

You empower others to identify and address classroom needs, fostering engagement and collaboration. Your comfort with adaptability and the ability to adjust your approach in real-time are key to your success in this role.

Why you should choose us?

We offer attractive salary packaging options and professional development all within a fun and friendly Christian working environment.

At Alta-1, our staff believe that each student is created with unique strengths and abilities and work collaboratively to see these flourish. Each day provides multiple opportunities for you to make positive contributions into the lives and futures of these students.
