Therapeutic Specialist | Albany | Great Southern Region
ALBANY | GREAT SOUTHERN REGION
FULL-TIME, PERMANENT
START DATE: 1 JAN 2026
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Therapeutic Specialist with relevant experience to join a large dynamic team of educators and support staff at Alta-1 College.
Here’s some information about us:
At Alta-1 we recognise that adverse life experiences can impact a student’s sense of self-worth, motivation and capacity for learning, making engagement in a mainstream school setting difficult.
As an independent, co-educational, CARE (Curriculum and Reengagement in Education) School, Alta-1 is a Christian organisation which works with students from years 7-12. We work with at-risk young people providing them with wrap around support as they go on a journey of transformation to discover their unique sense of identity and purpose. We are fully committed to their safety, wellbeing and welfare at all times.
We believe in fostering a highly relational environment where students, teachers and staff develop meaningful connections based on trust, respect and empathy. These relationships serve as the foundation for effective teaching and learning, allowing us to better understand and support the unique needs and aspirations of each student.
Now let’s talk about you!
If successful, you will be a member of a multidisciplinary team who collaborate to implement our Stronger Systems Model and promote effective outcomes for students. Key components of the role include case management, counselling, group work, and consultation with staff regarding therapeutic adjustments and team functioning.
You are highly relational.
You understand that healthy relationships are key to promoting effective outcomes and can quickly build rapport with staff and students from diverse backgrounds. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you provide tailored strategies to address complex student needs and enhance team effectiveness and functioning.
You facilitate engagement with your wraparound approach.
As an optimistic and resilient individual, you employ a holistic approach to foster student engagement and growth. You connect with students through conversations, activities and excursions to learn about their needs and use your clinical skills to implement interventions that help students grow and heal from adversity.
You take a trauma informed approach to student care.
You employ a trauma informed approach to student care and advocate for safety, choice, collaboration and respect for diversity. You support the team to understand complex behaviours and
respond to student needs with patience and sensitivity. Your clinical insight and skills are used to promote compassionate support and a healthy culture.
You empower others.
You have a strength-based approach that highlights the abilities, skills and resources of staff and students. You model and advocate for healthy boundaries and ensure that relevant information is shared within the team.
Why you should choose us:
We offer attractive salary packaging options, paid leave during the school holidays, professional development and clinical supervision within a friendly Christian working environment.
This role is covered by the current Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA), with exciting new benefits and updated conditions arriving in 2026 under a new agreement.
At Alta-1, our staff believe that each student is created with unique strengths and abilities and work collaboratively to see these flourish. Each day provides multiple opportunities for you to make positive contributions into the lives and futures of these students.
